A Perfect Winter Day at the Russian River
The Perfect Winter Day at the Russian River - Recommendations by Cassidy, Manager

Despite the floods that occur from time to time during the winter, The Russian River Valley is an amazing area to explore during the slower months, from November to May. And while you may hear of flooding happening occasionally during periods of heavy rain, the weather in this area is actually pretty mild, even in the winter months, and the effects from flooding (like road closures) are usually cleared within 24-72 hours after the fact.
By enjoying the Russian River Resort Area during the winter, you can
avoid the crowds and experience a uniquely beautiful escape from San Francisco, Los Angeles, or wherever you may be coming from.
Our manager, Cassidy, put together this awesome guide for a perfect winter day at the Russian River. Check it out below!
Morning:
- Get up early to watch the mist and fog drip over the hills surrounding the inn with a cup of coffee.
- Head to Books and Letters in Guerneville to browse new releases and stop by Mill Street Thrift to discover hidden treasures.
- Pop into Coffee Bazaar for a midmorning pick-me-up (and browse the other stores along main street if the weather allows!)
Afternoon:
- Drive to Jenner and take the 1 up the coast, enjoying the stunning coastline from the comfort of my car and pulling off on outlooks.
- On my way back to the inn, stop by Cafe Aquatica for a scrumptious brunch where the river meets the sea.
- Stop into The Blue Heron inn Duncans Mills for a “Pliny the Elder” IPA and then head back to the inn for a quick afternoon nap (or head to Armstrong State Park for a casual walk if I have the energy!)
Evening:
- Grab a wine tasting flight at Equality Vines in Guerneville, then walk over to Main Street Bistro for dinner and to enjoy the live music.
- Join the locals in karaoke! (Guerneville has karaoke seven nights a week - just ask where!).
Looking for the perfect cozy place to spend the night on the Russian River? Our small boutique inn has apartment style, dog friendly rooms with private balconies overlooking the river. And don’t forget to keep an eye out for river otters! They love coming out in the winter when there’s less human activity.
